The Gospel Dance

The Gospel is the greatest story that tells us the greatest news of all, namely that Jesus came to save His Creation and restore all back to God! This great story is the defining and redefining center of the lives of those who follow Christ. We did nothing to deserve Jesus.  We do nothing to earn His love and affection. The Gospel not only saves us but it changes us from the inside out. God does this based on His ongoing grace.

In the Gospel of John, Jesus says that He’s the bread of life and "Whoever eats My flesh and drinks My blood remains in Me, and I in him. Just as the living Father sent Me and I live because of the Father, so also the one who feeds on Me will live because of Me." - John 6:56-57

This idea of remaining in Christ and living with him is deeply relational. The God of the universe wants an amazing relationship with us that is like a dance of coming to Him, continually receiving from Him and going with Him into all the world.

This doesn’t happen without training and tools. The Gospel Dance (taken from the Gospel Waltz) is a three step dance, a tool that we can use in learning how to spiritually feed on Christ. This works best (1) for someone who has come to surrender to Christ (2) in the context of a church family. Here is how it goes.

Building Gospel Fluency Habits In Our Daily Lives

The Gospel is the greatest story that tells us the greatest news of all, namely that Jesus came to save His Creation and restore all back to God! Confess

This word in the Scriptures means to openly admit and declare the same thing. The reality is that whatever you say, you are already in agreement with God who already knows. To confess is more for your own heart to come clean than for you to tell God something that He’s unaware of.

James 5:16 "Therefore, confess your sins to one another and pray for one another, that you may be healed. The prayer of a righteous person has great power as it is working."
1 John 1:8-9 "If we say we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us. If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness."
Joshua 7:19, "Then Joshua said to Achan, 'My son, give glory to the LORD God of Israel and give praise to him. And tell me now what you have done; do not hide it from me.'"

Believe

Believe that God is God, you are not, and He loves you unconditionally no matter what you have done (or not done). Take time to remind yourself of His great love for you in Christ Jesus. Remember that His love is greater than all our sins, past, present and future. Here are some verses to lead you into recentering yourself back to fact.

Psalm 103:11-13 "For as high as the heavens are above the earth, so great is His loving devotion for those who fear Him. As far as the east is from the west, so far has He removed our transgressions from us. As a father has compassion on his children, so the LORD has compassion on those who fear Him."
1 John 3:1 "See what kind of love the Father has given to us, that we should be called children of God; and so we are."
Ephesians 2:8-9 "For it is by grace you have been saved through faith, and this not from yourselves; it is the gift of God, not by works, so that no one can boast."
Romans 8:35-37 "Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? Shall trouble or distress or persecution or famine or nakedness or danger or sword? … No, in all these things we are more than conquerors through Him who loved us."

Obey

Obedience is what we do out of what’s been done for us. It’s our will submitting to the will of God seen through the scriptures!

1 Peter 1: 13-15 "Therefore prepare your minds for action. Be sober-minded. Set your hope fully on the grace to be given you at the revelation of Jesus Christ. As obedient children, do not conform to the passions of your former ignorance. But just as He who called you is holy, so be holy in all you do…"
Matthew 3:8 "Bear fruit in keeping with repentance."
Philippians 2:12-13 "So then, my beloved, just as you have always obeyed, not as in my presence only, but now much more in my absence, work out your salvation with fear and trembling; for it is God who is at work in you, both to will and to work for His good pleasure."
